Jeepwm69. 6583 posts · Joined 2013. #6 · Jul 18, 2016. The 420AT was the first automatic to use a shift motor like the ES models. The Older auto machines seem to have fewer problems than the ES. The Rubicons 01-11 and Rincons don't use the same type of transmissions as the ES models.
In the shift box, Honda puts some VERY stiff grease. It is for that reason that things work (move) well at higher temps, (above 20 deg F), and not at lower temps! To fix the problem, take the shift box off (it's generally located on the lower front of your engine). Bringing this thread back to life. My 2000 rancher 350 es 4x4 does the exact same thing as decribed in the original post. I have put a new angle sensor, shift motor, and handlebar switch buttons on and still just a faint beep coming from the motor trying to move. The battery is fresh (12.4 volts).
