Honestly don't bother with rpcs3 it doesn't work 99% of the time. I've been using xenia which is far more stable from my experience. But if you want to use rpcs3 the fix for the blacked out characters is enabling Force Bit Emulation (which is under debug) and enabling write color buffers (which is under GPU). Alright thanks man.
