Eel River salmon returns. As of Nov. 28, a total of 390 Chinook salmon have entered the Van Arsdale fish count station according to Scott L Harris, an associate Biologist with the Northern Region. Making up that total is 167 males, 171 Females, and 52 jacks. A total of 138 were counted this past week.

Rick on the New Sea Angler reported 68 Lings to 17 pounds for 29 anglers. They added 213 Rockfish (Rockfish, Vermillion & Rockfish, Copper & Bocaccio) and on the way home yanked up 160 Crabs out of the crab gear. The next most common fish are jacksmelt (and topsmelt) that generally swing around the outer end of the pier. For the jacksmelt, use three size 8 hooks baited with pile worms.
