Mildred, or “Millie” as she was known to her friends, was born Dec. 24, 1944, to Raymond Hinckley and Elsie Slusser Hinckley in Wichita, Kan. Her family later moved to Douglas, where she was raised with her siblings. She married Fredrick Powell in 1963, with whom she had three children before his death in 1978.
