moonveil just seems better. the moves come out quick and it's just as strong, if not stronger. unfortunate, because i just got the darkmoon greatsword and love the way it looks. was thinking about respeccing for it, but i can wield it two-handed without the repsec. still might play around with it more or use it for bosses weak to frost.

It's still strong. Has good range, comes out really fast, and well, is a katana - (unfortunately) best weapon class in the game. It's a solid weapon to add to a mage build. As for the hype, maybe your friend was playing from day 1.The only reason to use a katana is unsheathe. And moonveil unsheathe is just better.
