There is no difference in the armor protection between the M1A2 SEP and the M1A2 outside of the TUSK package which gives some extra CE protection for the M1A2 SEP. The primary advantage the M1A2 SEP has is it has better thermal sights than the M1A2. Those shots you're dying to in the M1A2 SEP would have also killed the M1A2.
