Having the same issue, I seem to crash at least 50% of the time during DMZ games. Always 13 files failed to validate, always a 7MB download. Actually I just restarted Steam running as admin and there was a ~730MB dl after validating files again. Checked afterwards and still says 13 files failed but I'm back to a 7MB dl.

Methinks one of the files is just bugged by default, and will fail regardless. As for when it will reacquire, it does so immediately after validating, but as I said, the file that gets retreived will fail to validate regardless.
