383 vs. 406. OK I have an opportunity to pick up a 406 short block for 1800 bucks. It's got eagle 4340 crank, eagle 4340 h beams and SRP flat tops as well as 77 h series bearings and arp main bolts. It's a 509 block and it looks to be nice from the pics (no core shift, etc). It's brand new never fired and I have confidence that the builder ...A longer rod will give you much better performance than a 2.055-inch valve will ever get you. All said, you will not go wrong by opting for 2.055-inch valves over 2.02-inch valves. However, the same time/money spent in other areas will likely generate better results. a 383 is a .030 over 350 with the crankshaft of a 400 small block with it`s main bearing journals cut down to fit the 350`s smaller main bearing saddles. so the bore and stroke is 4.030 X 3.750, this is why it`s called a stroker, since the stroke is longer. Since the stroke is longer it makes more torque.Re: Super Victor vs RPM Airgap Dyno results SBC. by bigcam406 » Sat Apr 09, 2011 3:59 am. i recently saw a manifold shootout article where the air gap rpm beat the majority of single planes tested in average torque and horsepower.the small block used was a 383,brodix ik200 heads, roller cam, pump gas deal.the test range was from 3-7 grand.Dyno'd a 383 stroker equipped with Whipple Supercharger's carbureted small-block tuner kit.
