Lich crusade is so very easy. Just keep fireball your enemy and don't mind if any of these poor peasant units dies. And when your mage general reaches a high level, they can just one magic and clear the field. 1-2 weeks is not enough for the time required to travel to main quest areas + companion quest areas + the required rests .
