This is just my 2 cents, but I told all my colleges that I got into the Vanderbilt Mosaic program, won a full tuition scholarship to WashU, and was a finalist for full rides at 2 other T20 colleges after every single admissions office I called recommended that I did (called Stanford, Harvard, Columbia, Northwestern, UPenn, Princeton, Yale, and a couple of others).They found that letters using a more formal design and tone were seen as more trustworthy and important than less formal messages, and that recipients were more likely to respond to these formal communications.
