After a failed attempt at PF cakes/SGFC (not the subject of today's post) I decided to try my hand at monotubs. Everything went great with the jars (B+ MS, WBS) and I followed Damion's tek in spawning ~ 4.5 quarts to 1 brick of coir, 2 quarts verm and about a cup of gypsum. I used about 4+ quarts of water as per the tek.Properly constructed monotubs contain plenty of air for the spawn run. Actually, heightened levels of CO2 is beneficial during this stage. IE it would be way easier to do like 4-5, maybe 6, monotubs vs 36 shoeboxes. Spore syringe or liquid culture syringe. Injection port bag or fully-colonized grain spawn. Clear plastic bin (like those made by Sterilite) or a ready-made monotub. An opaque black contractor bag (if you are going to make your own monotub) Polyfill or self-adhesive monotub filters. and colonize fast to get a fairly healthy substrate. If you have only 6 cakes you could do a mini Monotub, use about 150-250g Coir, and 0.5L vermiculite and start by adding 2L water and add more later if needed. Mix well with the spawn and let colonize. Do this and you will have mushrooms about 10 days later.
