You won’t be able to tell if it’s cracked until you pull the sprague and squeeze it to see they are detached. Get an aluminum sprague cage and be done with it.

First thing is to check and clean all the electrical connections on the EPS unit. After some time these connections get corroded and dirty.

Disconnect the shift cable at the transmission, this will allow you to work the shifter to see if it's something in the cable as well as work the arm on the transmission by hand to see if it is rough/hard to operate.
