I just had Jaheira die at the same place you did. She hadn't joined the party at that point. It wasn't an option for her to join the party at that point. She was just a follower. She wasn't a party member. She was just a Harper. You can't revive any of the Harpers that die in that battle. That is something you can only do with your party members.

I think "Long Rests" don't do anything to story, game timeline or anything with only exception you can't go to camp in some locations, but I think (never tried it) you can still take long rests if you have enough food on you in camp-leaving-restricted areas, it just won't be at camp.The only reason to go to the towers first is to free the prisoners in the jail cells underground.
